Precision Measurement & Monitoring for Rail Weld Quality

Seven essential instruments for gas flow control, preheat timing, joint geometry verification, and final acceptance inspection — enabling every weld to meet the dimensional and mechanical requirements of international rail welding standards.

Heavy Duty Gas Hose 25 m

Oxygen Flow Meter (LZB-10)

Custom flow metering instrument for calibrating and monitoring oxygen delivery during the rail preheating phase. Critical for achieving the correct preheat temperature across the rail head and web sections. Allows the welding operator to set and verify flow rates against the welding procedure specification parameters for each rail profile.

  • Measuring Range: 100–1000 L/h
  • Weight: 1.5 kg
  • Application: Preheat oxygen flow calibration

Oxygen Regulator (YQY-1A)

Precision oxygen pressure regulating instrument for controlling cylinder-to-preheater gas supply. Ensures stable delivery pressure regardless of cylinder pressure drop during extended welding operations, maintaining consistent preheater flame characteristics across multiple joints.

  • Max Inlet Pressure: 15 MPa
  • Max Outlet Pressure: 2 MPa
  • Material: Brass construction
  • Weight: 1.84 kg
Oxygen Regulator YQY 1A
Propane Pressure Regulator YQW 03

Propane Pressure Regulator (YQW-03)

Dedicated propane/LPG pressure regulating instrument for the preheater fuel supply circuit. Designed for field welding environments with standard LPG cylinder connections. Maintains consistent fuel gas pressure for stable preheater flame throughout the preheat cycle.

  • Rated Pressure: 1.6 MPa
  • Weight: 1.2 kg
  • Application: LPG fuel pressure regulation

Stopwatch

Purpose-built timing instrument for managing preheat duration and weld flash trimming intervals. Accurate timing is non-negotiable for repeatable weld quality across a project’s full joint count. Critical for maintaining consistent preheat cycles and the specified trimming windows in welding procedure documentation.

  • Application: Preheat timing & trimming cycle timing
  • Design: Lightweight, field-optimized
Stopwatch
Rail Alignment Straightedge

Rail Alignment Straightedge (1000 mm)

Custom stainless steel straightedge for precision measurement of rail head alignment at the weld joint. Spans the weld joint and adjacent rail sections, revealing any misalignment that would cause accelerated wheel wear or impact loading in service. Used to verify vertical and horizontal alignment meets the ≤2 mm tolerance requirement per DIN and ISO rail welding standards.

  • Material: Stainless steel
  • Length: 1000 mm
  • Thickness: 8 mm
  • Weight: 2.4 kg
  • Application: Rail head alignment verification per DIN/ISO

Rail Gap Gauge

Custom measuring tool for verifying weld gap between rail ends before thermite pouring — the most critical dimensional check before mold placement. The specified reserved rail gap of 26 ± 2 mm can be quickly verified with this gauge before proceeding with mold assembly and preheating. An incorrect gap directly affects weld metal volume, penetration depth, and final joint strength.

  • Material: Aluminum alloy
  • Measuring Range: 16–71 mm
  • Length: 240 mm | Thickness: 8 mm
  • Target Gap: 26 ± 2 mm (reserved gap specification)
Wedge Iron

Wedge Iron

Carbon steel wedge for fine adjustment of rail joint height differences and achieving lateral alignment before final welding. Used in combination with the rail aligner to achieve the final position adjustment before mold placement. Allows precise vertical correction when rail ends are not perfectly level after rough alignment.

  • Material: Carbon steel
  • Weight: 6 kg
  • Dimensions: 150 × 40 × 20 mm (tapered)
  • Application: Height & lateral alignment adjustment

Frequently Asked Questions

What acceptance standards do these inspection instruments support?
These instruments are designed to support quality verification against DIN EN 14730, ISO 9001, and TB/T 3332-2013 rail welding standards. The alignment straightedge and gap gauge enable verification of the ≤2 mm profile tolerance and 26 ± 2 mm reserved gap specified in these standards.
Can these instruments be calibrated?
Yes. The oxygen flow meter, oxygen regulator, and propane regulator can be calibrated against reference standards. We recommend annual calibration for the flow meters and regulators to maintain measurement accuracy. The straightedge and gap gauge are precision-machined and do not require routine calibration, but should be inspected for damage before each project.
What is the purpose of the reserved rail gap measurement?
The reserved rail gap (26 ± 2 mm for standard profiles) determines the volume of molten steel that will form the weld joint. If the gap is too narrow, the weld may lack full penetration. If too wide, excess molten steel may cause defects or require excessive grinding. The rail gap gauge ensures the gap is within specification before the mold is placed.
Do you provide inspection procedure guidelines for these instruments?
Yes. Our thermite welding operation guide (available as a free PDF download) includes the inspection and quality check procedures using these instruments. The guide covers pre-weld checks, in-process monitoring, and post-weld acceptance testing. Contact us to request a copy.
